Adopting as a single parent introduces the opportunity to create a highly customized, engaging adoption profile. You are a unique individual with your own likes, dislikes, and fun little quirks. There are things that your family and friends absolutely LOVE about you – it may be your signature chocolate cake recipe for birthdays, your horrible singing voice, or your ability to capture the kids’ attention during story time. And whatever is unique to you will tell your story best and help an expectant mother considering adoption better understand who you are.
I love spending my weekends out and about, visiting antique stores and taking my dog, Ollie, to the dog park. I also love excursions with my nieces and nephews – especially when we go to the local beach! I love the water, and can’t wait to see a child dip their toes in the sand for the first time. I’ve got a knack for building sandcastles, and I plan on sharing my secret tips and tricks with a little one!
You’ll see in the example above that we first establish that you have a variety of interests, and that you love being around other people. And then at the end, we tie it into a child by weaving in that you would like to share the fun with a kiddo!
With each season comes new traditions and as a family, we love to keep those traditions alive by passing them down from generation to generation. We cannot wait to share these special moments with a child.
Spring: Spring cleaning is in the air! I help organize our neighborhood garage sale. We donate the proceeds to local charities!
Summer: The highlight of each summer is Fourth of July at my parent’s home. There are always lots of fireworks, plenty of hot dogs, and all the cousins are around to play games while the adults relax in the summer sun.
Fall: While the Florida weather is ALWAYS perfect, my family seeks out our Midwestern roots by taking a trip to Tennessee. I love seeing the leaves change!
Winter: Thanksgiving and Christmas are always so much fun – my family loves food, and the holidays are the perfect time for a feast and good company. And while I have yet to see a snowflake here, I still like to decorate with them!
In the example above, we gave the reader four things throughout the year that you hope to share with a child. We also gave them some detail about why we enjoy those special moments – because of family. This gives the reader the notion that you spend the most precious moments in life with those you love, and in turn, a child would be surrounded by family and friends during those special times.
