My Favorite Date
Today Rachel and I were discussing our first date. I took her to a Chinese restaurant that my family had been going to for years. The owner, Mr. Wu, was a kind man who made a great deal of fuss over me and my first date. He sent me an encouraging smile as he seated us at the best table in the house. I was so nervous my hands were shaking. I ended up spiling Wonton soup into my lap in the first course. Rachel asked if I was OK. I tried to make a self-deprecating joke and said, “Well, I guess you know how nervous I am now.” Rachel broke into a smile and said, “I’m nervous too, maybe we should skip the soup.” She’s been my date ever since.
