Still Waiting, Still Hoping

Though we just joined ParentFinder.com in December 2020, our journey to adoption started a long time ago, when we decided to pursue adoption in November 2016 and then became officially eligible to adopt in June 2018.

But even earlier than that: we always knew we wanted to be parents, sharing our dreams with one another as high school sweethearts of building our family through a combination of pregnancy and adoption. After seven years of trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant through various means, we were excited to shift our attention toward adoption in November 2016. Over the next couple of years, we raised money, read books, built a relationship with an agency, and prepared ourselves to be the best parents we can be as we seek to honor a child and their birth family through adoption.

The process was intense, for sure, but the wait has been the hardest part of all. After so many years, it’s hard to remain hopeful some days, but we know in our hearts that the right birth mom will find us and we can’t wait to meet her.

For us, adoption was never our “second choice.” We’re thankful to have many friends whose lives have been enriched by adoption—as adoptees, as adoptive parents, and as birth mothers. It’s just one way we partner with each other in the great human family, and one way we’ll continue to fill our home with love and joy.
