Our family loves being together and can make anything a game. We play basketball, cards, dolls, soccer, house, etc. Right now, chase and superheroes are the games of choice. We fly around the house non-stop pretending like someone’s the monster (usually, Dad) chasing the town’s people until the kid superheroes defeat the monster.
When we’re not playing games Will is picking up a book to read. He loves reading historical fiction (The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates is one of his favorites). He believes reading is one of the most important tools for the development of everyone..
Mallie, on the other hand, is always the catalyst for the bigger and better adventure. Often it looks like going to the beach on “Family Day” (what the kids call Saturday). We wake up, grab some breakfast and head off to the beach to catch crabs, build sandcastles, and play in the waves.
We love making up our own traditions on the holidays. For example, we always build a fort on Christmas, eat homemade pizza and watch a Christmas movie. Our whole family can’t wait to share those traditions and make new ones with another child.
We go to a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church that is a central part of our life. We desire for our whole family to grow up laughing, playing and learning about God in a community like the one we are a part of. The church has adults we pray will mentor our children and other kids we hope will be our kids best friends, some of whom are also adopted.
