Our Family

Family is the most important thing in our lives. We were both raised in loving and supportive families that taught us what unconditional love looks like (both of our parents have been married 35+ years!). We often talk about how blessed we are to have gained each other’s family when we got married and love being surrounded by our parents, siblings, nieces/nephews, grandparents, cousins, and aunts/uncles.

Megan’s family lives a short drive away and we see them often. Get-togethers are always entertaining, filled with lots of games, music, and spontaneous dance parties. Growing up, we had family game nights that we called “Family Olympics.” It has been fun to see this tradition evolve as the kids became adults and a new generation of kids are introduced.

Zach’s family is spread out over a few different states, but we make it a priority to get together often throughout the year. One of our favorite places to meet up and spend a long weekend is in Chicago – exploring the city, going to baseball games, and finding the best deep-dish pizza. Any time we are together there is guaranteed great food, good stories, and lots of laughs.

Our Favorite Family Traditions:

Visiting Megan’s family vacation house in Florida

Hosting a large Thanksgiving gathering with Megan’s extended family and enjoying a traditional turkey-day menu, but with a side of spaghetti and meatballs

Making different kinds of Norwegian cookies with Zach’s family at Christmas

Flying kites and coloring eggs with Zach’s grandparents during Easter

Celebrating birthdays and milestones by using a special “red plate” at dinner to recognize a family member

Sharing “one good, one bad” thing about your day at nightly family dinners
