Hi there and welcome - we are Brad and Shana! Much has led to this moment in our lives, and we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else or feeling anymore certain. Thank you for taking the time to see what makes our world go round. We hope to gain your trust as you have our deepest respect.
In the online dating scene of 2013, we were lucky enough to find each other quickly! For a full month, we poured ourselves into meaningful emails packed with humor. That’s not to say life didn’t throw us some curve balls! Excuses of stitches, the flu, and an injury had all our friends convinced this internet romance wouldn’t make it to the first date. Despite it all though, we never second-guessed each other’s honesty. What we had was special and worth the wait.
Over the next two years of dating, we became the best of friends sharing our passions, enjoying community events, and traveling the east coast. Soon, all our walls came down as our affection was built up. Finding our soulmates in this big world is something we’ll never take lightly. On a beautiful day in 2015, we were married.
Parenting our son Connor has been the greatest blessing of our lives! While growing a loving family has always been our dream, complications from Connor’s birth would make another pregnancy high-risk. For years, we saw every doctor and exhausted all options. The physical and mental pain was extremely difficult, but we’d endure it again in a heartbeat. We’ve seen all sides of adoption and know it was meant for us. Our devotion to family makes us strong, and we have so much love to give!
Expectant mothers who choose to make an adoption plan may qualify for some level of financial assistance during their pregnancy. However, each person's situation and specific needs are different. Your adoption social worker can help you determine what level of assistance you qualify for and deserve. Many expectant mothers qualify for financial assistance to cover basic pregnancy and living expenses, including but not limited to - transportation reimbursement, utility assistance for phone, water, and electricity/gas, maternity clothing and supplements, etc.
It won't cost you anything. If you choose to place your baby for adoption, all of your medical and legal fees will be covered and you may be eligible for financial assistance with other pregnancy-related expenses.
Yes. Even if you don’t know the identity of the birth father, you can still choose to make an adoption plan. However, every adoption situation is different. The adoption social worker you’re assigned to will get to know you and your story first, and then guide you through the process accordingly.
You can make an adoption plan at any point in your pregnancy, even after the baby has been born. But, it's important to start the process as early in your pregnancy as possible. Connecting with those resources will allow you to gain access to important medical services, including prenatal care, to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.
One aspect of your adoption plan is the "Hospital Plan" an outline of how you'd like your hospital stay and delivery to go. You can craft this on your own or with the help of your adoption social worker. But everything is up to you. You’ll be able to choose who comes to the hospital with you, who is in the room with you during delivery, and how much time you’d like to spend with the baby before signing the final papers.
As part of your adoption plan, you'll determine whether or not you’d like to have an open or closed adoption or something in between. Open adoptions may include phone calls, messaging (via social media, email, or text), and/or periodic visits each year. Closed adoptions may include no contact at all or annual updates provided to the birth parent(s) by the adoptive family. Each post-adoption relationship is different and can vary based on what an expectant mother chooses in her adoption plan.
The cold didn't stop us this winter! Playing in the snow and roller skating topped Connor's list as did going to the movies and arcade. We also built a racecar and celebrated a bunch of birthdays! The roller rink was a weekly stop! We went to the movies a handful of times. Wicked and Paddington 3 were our favorites! Our local arcade is always a fun time on a rainy day as is going out to eat! Connor and his best bud competed in the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby race where they built their own cars! Our pup, Doris, turned 1! We are all obsessed with this sweetheat who we like to call Professor Wet Mouth. :-)
Our holidays were packed with family and friend fun as we did everything Christmas! Shopping at the local stores, seeing the light displays, decorating the home, and attending the festivities filled our calendar! Connor and Dad in the annual Christmas parade! Mom and pup Doris bundled up on the sidelines. Found the tree! Now it's time for chopping and hot cider! Homemade cookies for Santa, family, and friends! Posing with Mrs. & Mr. Claus at our town tree lighting! Our Michigan friends came for Xmas! Having a blast at the dine-in movie theater! Playing with buddies, sipping cocoa, and meeting Santa again at the community center!
Autumn was beautiful in Virginia as we visited national parks around the Blue Ridge Mountains! We kept busy celebrating Halloween, hosting get-togethers, apple picking, and attending fall festivals. After watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade, we kicked off the holiday season at Nana and Grandad's house with our extended family! Gearing up for trick or treating with friends and a pizza party afterwards! S'mores and movie night with our buddies! Painting pumpkins in the neighborhood! Success at the apple orchard made for warm applesauce over vanilla ice cream! This community fair is full of games, animals, rides, and tons of craft and food vendors! Thanksgiving Day before seeing the family!
We had an awesome summer vacation in Rhode Island, Shana's home state! After living there for 23 years, Shana couldn't wait to share every nook and cranny of her childhood with Connor. We had a blast visiting beaches, seaports, lighthouses, historic mansions, parks, an aquarium, and a zoo. The scenery was amazing as were the food and people. Connor's favorite part was seeing the house and neighborhood Shana grew up in...and, of course, all the ice cream he had. :-) Connor's swimsuit always has half the beach in it! Enjoying a beautiful sunset in Narragansett! Learning the history of RI lighthouses! Touring the luxurious Newport mansions! Our favorite part of the aquarium was the sea lion show. So cute! The elephants at the zoo were very intelligent. This guy loves getting a bath!
Spring brought lots of time outdoors - just how we like it! We enjoyed Memorial Day festivals, played sports, went to an amusement park, expanded our garden, and celebrated the end of the school year! Connor and his friend after a soccer game! Strawberry picking is a family tradition! As are the tasty treats we bake afterwards! Brad and Connor took up fishing! The Easter Bunny made an epic scavenger hunt this year! Dinosaur museum! Connor handpicked bouquets for his amazing teachers! Best buds!
