Hello there, we’re Garrett and Kim!  We can’t underscore how thankful we are to you for taking the time to read about our journey together, the families we come from, and the family we hope to build.

We met in the late winter of 2020, via online dating in Illinois.  Our first date was at a local sushi restaurant.  Garrett, who had never indulged in sushi, happily obliged, speaking to the spontaneity and openness that our relationship blossomed into.  Despite some cautious eating at first, the date and sushi went well, and it’s a story we now get to laugh about when we go out for our monthly sushi date night.

2020 was an interesting first year together, but it was filled with joy.  The outdoors was our escape, as we both found backpacking, hiking, and camping in local, state, and national parks to be our shared hobby.  We moved back to Michigan, Garrett’s home state, in early 2022, and were engaged not long after, during a trip to Hawai’i.  That day's cover story was “we’re going to the beach to see sea turtles” – Kim didn’t see any, but it was still the best day ever.

After our wedding in 2023, we knew the next step was expanding our family.  Due to a congenital heart condition that Kim was born with, we quickly realized that adoption would be the safest path to this.  It didn’t deter us, as we have always known we wanted to share our love, time, and traditions with a child someday.  Parenting isn’t biology to us; it’s a journey that we cannot wait to start.

FAQ’s about placing a baby for Adoption

I'm considering giving my baby up for adoption. How much does that cost?

It won't cost you anything. If you choose to place your baby for adoption, all of your medical and legal fees will be covered and you may be eligible for financial assistance with other pregnancy-related expenses.

I'm experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and don't know who the birth father is. Can I still place my baby for adoption?

Yes. Even if you don’t know the identity of the birth father, you can still choose to make an adoption plan. However, every adoption situation is different. The adoption social worker you’re assigned to will get to know you and your story first, and then guide you through the process accordingly.

When is the right time to talk with an adoption professional?

You can make an adoption plan at any point in your pregnancy, even after the baby has been born. But, it's important to start the process as early in your pregnancy as possible. Connecting with those resources will allow you to gain access to important medical services, including prenatal care, to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.

When I create an adoption plan, will I get to choose who is in the room with me during delivery?

One aspect of your adoption plan is the "Hospital Plan" an outline of how you'd like your hospital stay and delivery to go. You can craft this on your own or with the help of your adoption social worker. But everything is up to you. You’ll be able to choose who comes to the hospital with you, who is in the room with you during delivery, and how much time you’d like to spend with the baby before signing the final papers.

How much contact will I have with the adoptive family after I place my baby with them?

As part of your adoption plan, you'll determine whether or not you’d like to have an open or closed adoption or something in between. Open adoptions may include phone calls, messaging (via social media, email, or text), and/or periodic visits each year. Closed adoptions may include no contact at all or annual updates provided to the birth parent(s) by the adoptive family. Each post-adoption relationship is different and can vary based on what an expectant mother chooses in her adoption plan.

January family visit

01/11/2026

My parents and my grandma visited us here in Michigan. We made them a hearty breakfast and then took them to Fragrance making shop, where they got to create fragrances for room spray, car freshener, body lotion, and more. Mine was called floral forest, since I love the more natural scent. We also had a lovely dinner at a seafood, followed by watching "Fly Me to the Moon," a movie about the Apollo 11 moon landing. Today, they left after snuggling with the pups and a few more conversations. The best part is we found out that my dad is cancer-free with a likelihood of 20-year remission!  Hopefully, we will see them in the next couple of months!  We hope everyone is having an amazing beginning to 2026! - Koala, Subi, Kim, & Garrett

Christmas 2025

01/11/2026

Christmas 2025 was filled with days by the fire, surrounded by family and friends, and plenty of snow and cookie baking.  This year's list of cookies included buckeyes (Kim's favorite, made with extra peanut butter), frosted cutouts, molasses, peanut blossoms, and chocolate-dipped pretzels.  Needless to say - there was plenty to go around to our friends & family members, although we replenished with cookie gifts from them as well. Highlights of the Christmas season this year were a get-together with two of our friends in Michigan at their annual Christmas party.  They have large families that love to host big get-togethers.  Kim loved the couple games this year, as well as the Karaoke that always makes an appearance.  Garrett loves that too, but he appreciated the fully cooked pig that was the centerpiece of the meal this year. We also enjoyed the ability to see Garrett's family at Christmas this year in Milwaukee.  Garrett's mom always does such a great job with the holidays.  You can tell she's had plenty of seasons being a mom and making Christmas Spirit.  There were plenty of laughs and good memories to be had, with Word Beat Challenge offering one of the more memorable...
