Expectant mothers who choose to make an adoption plan may qualify for some level of financial assistance during their pregnancy. However, each person's situation and specific needs are different. Your adoption social worker can help you determine what level of assistance you qualify for and deserve. Many expectant mothers qualify for financial assistance to cover basic pregnancy and living expenses, including but not limited to - transportation reimbursement, utility assistance for phone, water, and electricity/gas, maternity clothing and supplements, etc.
It won't cost you anything. If you choose to place your baby for adoption, all of your medical and legal fees will be covered and you may be eligible for financial assistance with other pregnancy-related expenses.
Yes. Even if you don’t know the identity of the birth father, you can still choose to make an adoption plan. However, every adoption situation is different. The adoption social worker you’re assigned to will get to know you and your story first, and then guide you through the process accordingly.
You can make an adoption plan at any point in your pregnancy, even after the baby has been born. But, it's important to start the process as early in your pregnancy as possible. Connecting with those resources will allow you to gain access to important medical services, including prenatal care, to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.
One aspect of your adoption plan is the "Hospital Plan" an outline of how you'd like your hospital stay and delivery to go. You can craft this on your own or with the help of your adoption social worker. But everything is up to you. You’ll be able to choose who comes to the hospital with you, who is in the room with you during delivery, and how much time you’d like to spend with the baby before signing the final papers.
As part of your adoption plan, you'll determine whether or not you’d like to have an open or closed adoption or something in between. Open adoptions may include phone calls, messaging (via social media, email, or text), and/or periodic visits each year. Closed adoptions may include no contact at all or annual updates provided to the birth parent(s) by the adoptive family. Each post-adoption relationship is different and can vary based on what an expectant mother chooses in her adoption plan.
It's been a busy week. We went out to see a former student of Jordan's perform at his university for the jazz band. It was a blast! Andrew also made some excellent pork chops last night. Today, we're just taking it easy again. Jordan's in the process of looking around for new job opportunities, as is common for teachers around this time of year. Meanwhile, Andrew's job has been fairly smooth sailing this week. But it's just been a pretty normal week overall. We also just booked a visit from Jordan's mother and aunt to visit our new place, especially since they both live so close. We hope to have them both be a part of our future child's upbringing. We both believe so strongly in the role of family in our lives. Anyway, right now we're just looking forward to what the rest of the weekend will bring!
Yesterday and today, we've been working to tidy up the house and divide up responsibilities, as we're still settling into our new home! We've rearranged the kitchen probably 4 times by now because we can't decide on a setup we like. That being said, we absolutely love the current rendition! We had to stay home for Easter (which was crushing for us, as we always visit Jordan's godmother and grandmother for Easter), but there are just too many things we have to take care of with Jordan going back to work on Monday, and we used up too many lazy days last week. We'll blame the cozy weather! But today, as the evening sets in, we're just about done and winding down after a busy, eventful, but productive Spring Break. Here's hoping Jordan's semester finishes strong and Andrew's projects run smoothly until the summer when we take the next big steps in wedding and vacation planning.
Yesterday, we went to see the Mario Galaxy movie. I won't lie, we talked a fair amount about our desire to take our future children to the movie theater, which became especially relevant when the Paw Patrol movie preview came on screen. Going to the theater takes me back to when I (Jordan) was a kid, and my dad and I spent our free days watching the latest movie, grabbing lunch, and talking about our favorite parts. Those were some of my favorite memories growing up. Today, we were supposed to go to a concert, but since Andrew has the day off from work for Good Friday, we decided to rest at home before Jordan's Spring Break comes to an end. We just want to spend time together as a family cleaning up, watching some videos, and playing games with our cats in the office with us. Sometimes, we just need to use free time as break time. Today was that day!
Today has been a very rainy day, so we've spent the day in our office with our cats playing some video games, working on projects for our jobs, and eating some warm butter chicken and biryani (some of our favorites), followed by a short nap (also with our cats) because that's what you should do on rainy days like these. As Jordan's Spring Break comes closer to its end, we're excited to spend these last few days shopping for cookware and putting up pictures in our new home. It'll all culminate with a movie and concert on Thursday and Friday, respectively, to round out what has been a great week.
Today, we've made the decision to start the paperwork necessary to adopt a child. We're extremely excited! Being a high school teacher, I (Jordan) am on Spring Break, so I've got some time to go through everything and get it all in order. We actually just got back from Nashville for a Predators NHL game with some members of our family. We're in the center of the attached photo from the game. It may have been a Montreal win, but we're excited to see the next one! Neither of us are big sports fans, but our family is, and spending time with them is most important. We're looking forward to embarking on this adoption adventure so that we can bring our kids to family events, functions, and even some sports games!
