Awkward Answers for School Teachers

We are surrounded by great schools in our community and they are continuing to expand and growing in our favor! I grew up mostly going to a private school, with little time spent in a public school. Tom grew up going to both private and public as they moved around. I played soccer, was a cheerleader, swimmer, gymnast. Tom was a football jock. Until I was a parent, I honestly never really had thoughts on private vs. pubic schools. I had friends in both and it was just school. I believe they both have benefits or pros/cons and have learned what they have each had to offer to my children. I am so thankful that we have had such positive experiences with our schools and love the excitement in my kiddos any time they talk about it. 

I will always remeber that awkward feeling, in pretty much every grade, when we would go back to school and the teachers would ask what we did over summer break, fall break, or whatever holiday we had just come back from. My family was definitely… on a more adventurous path, way more than what I felt was “normal”. All my classmates would go to the beach or disney world, visit grandparents or maybe to the mountains… We would go to those places as well, but we always did things to the extreme. We would go to the beach to go deep sea fishing, which will always be one of my most favorite memories of my dad. I will never forget that smile on his face and his goofy laugh when I was reeling in that massive Marlin and I refused any help. Going to the mountains with my family always involved white water rafing, horse back riding, skiing. However, our usual vacation was actually down to our family farm in Louisiana several times a year… to the swamp… Those other places were expensive for larger families, but I LOVED it and still do! When you share what you do though, as an elementary or middle schooler when you are most concered about what others thought of you, I was always so embarrassed. How do you confidently say “I played with chickens and collected their eggs” or “I helped baby alligators hatch”. My oldest brother, Charles, had a teacher call my parents about his promlem with “telling lies”, but they were all true stories about what we were actually doing! As an adult, I realize how amazing these experiences have been and what an influence those things actually had on my life. We still do these things, only now the chickens are in my own backyard! It’s the BEST!

The things we’ve had the opportunity to do as a family are unbelievable. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by the best! We cannot wait to share these same experiences and so much more with a new little one soon!
