ADOPTING CATS & DOGS

I had a fantastic day volunteering at the animal shelter
today. I got to personally help a dog and two cats find their forever home
today. It started when I was walking the dogs and a gal was looking around, so
I asked her if she needed any help. She said she was looking for a dog named
Chewy. I found his kennel and took him out to meet the gal in the outdoor play
pen. At first Chewy was super excited and jumped up to lick the gal on her
face. Then he decided he needed to take a pee all around the play pen. After he
had calmed down, I showed her that he knows “sit” and “come” quite well. I also
gave her a bunch of treats to feed him and she fell in love instantly and
decided she wanted to adopt him. Later when I was cleaning out cat cages a
family came in looking for a kitten. I showed them the 4 kittens we had
available and helped them get into their cages to play/pet them. They quickly
decided to adopt the grey kitten. Lastly, a family with a newborn and a 3-year-old
girl came in looking for a kitten or cat. At first, I showed them to the
kittens but asked what they were really looking for. They really wanted a cat that
is good with the kids but not too old. I suggested that an “older” (1-3 years)
cat may be better because you can already see what their personality is where
kittens are still developing. I suggested Hercules, an orange male tabby that
is about 2 years old. He is one of the friendliest cats I’ve ever met. When the
mom and the 3-year-old went into the kennel to pet him he started purring and
rubbing up against the daughter’s leg which shows he’s not scared of kids. Once
they left his cage and went into the other room, he started crying out to them
quite loudly. It must have been fate or God or something because Hercules went
home that night with that family. It was so much fun being an integral part of
helping 3 animals find their forever home. Farris & I plan to get to give our
new baby a forever home…and hopefully soon.
