ANIMAL SHELTER

I
recently started volunteering at a local animal shelter. I enjoy walking the
dogs and then petting the cats. I also clean out dog kennels and cat cages as
needed. The dogs are always extremely excited to get out of their kennels. I
take them on a short walk along the grassy areas as the asphalt is way too hot
for their paws. Then I take them into these big runs and let them run around
freely. There is a play pool full of water that some dogs love to jump in and
lay down in to cool off while others just want to take a drink from it. Some of
the dogs are excellent at playing fetch and others are more interested in earning
treats for tricks like sitting and laying down. There is one puppy called Rouge
that likes to grab the leash & walk himself. I created a little song that
goes like this. “I walk myself cause I’m a big boy now”. We are actually
working on rewarding him for not grabbing & pulling on the leash. Anyways, now
with the cats I like to scan the room and see which cages need to be cleaned up
first. Then if there is time left I like to spend it petting and cuddling with
the kitties, some of whom are very talkative. I wish I could bring all the puppies
and kitties home with me but I’d need huge mansion and a large farm to pull
that off. For now, I volunteer and give all the love I can give them while I am
there.
