Great Grandma’s Sauce!
We are very fortunate in that some of my (Zachary) grandparents are still alive, and that we get to see them. My mom’s family were all farmers and through them I have inherited a love of gardening, food production, and food eating! There is great enjoyment in the anticipation of the next crop to come in and the special dishes one can make with it. I keep honey bees at my grandparent’s house so the kids get to see their Great Grandparents somewhat regularly. One thing (Great) Grandma always makes for me in the early spring is Rhubarb sauce. It is delicious! Recently Aria and I attempted to mimic it with some Rhubarb Maya picked with my mom (Mimi). The result was delicous but nothing beats (Great) Grandma’s.
Sarah didn’t come from an agriculturally inclined family. Yet, she has jumped right in and is a master berry picker! In fact, going to pick wild black raspberries near our house is one of her favorite things to do to relax after a day at work. She is also an excellent baker with all the fruit she picks. Recenty for family night we went to pick strawberries. She has since made a delicous Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp. The wild black raspberries will be ripe soon and I can’t wait for her to make a few pies out of them!
