Summer Time

It’s been a fast summer going into fall suddenly, and things becoming more normal since the spring flood finally!

Summer has had plenty of fun times though with traveling the state or just hanging around the house. We were able to go out on a trip to Lake Michigan and hang out at a cabin in the woods near a river. Claire got to have her first fishing experience and caught a worm (which might have been the bait), and was very excited about it. We also got to do a family kayak trip and play on the sandbar on a nice hot day. Of course, we had may beach days and enjoyed playing in the waves or build sandcastles together, and finding little fish and snails to check out.

At home, we got to enjoy our playground around the corner, visited the splash park downtown many times through the summer, and had many adventurous family walks at the nature center to see forest animals, try out Claire’s binoculars, and visit the farm animals. We even managed to find a small rock painted like a frog as a treasure hiding in some flowers.

Reflecting on our family adventures this past summer, we can’t wait to share such experiences with another child we the time is right.

Over the past few months, we’ve also enjoyed watching Claire get into role playing as a princess or even as a mommy or big sister to her baby doll. She’s been very much into helping care for her doll by making it food, feeding it, having it nap and playing games. We’ve either asked her or just sit and enjoyed watching her play to find out, as she’s told us, to practice being a big sister to the next baby. She has been very excited about the idea and is eagerly waiting to be an official big sister so she can help look after them. We admit to her that we’re just as eager about becoming a bigger family,  and patiently waiting for that right moment to meet the baby and her tummy mummy.
