Why We Love Our Neighborhood

(Pictured above: Purple tulips from our front yard this month)

We moved to our neighborhood seven years ago this month. I’ll never forget, we had only been in our home a few days when we hear a lawn mower on our property. We look out our window and saw a man mowing our lawn. What? Who could that be? Mark goes outside to find out.

Mark meets who we now call “Neighbor Dave.” (We know lots of Daves so we give them nickname them all to keep them straight). They start talking and Dave says to Mark, “We’ll I’m going to be your neighbor for the next 30 years. The least I can do is mow your lawn.”

He and his family are great neighbors.

Some other people reasons we love our neighborhood is Miss Sue, who we talked about in the previous post. This summer, Mark and I are looking to plant a garden and Sue is teaching us what she knows. She has fiercely loved the kids and our home. We could not have done the foster care journey without her.

The family directly behind us are another family who makes it a joy to live where we are. George and Marisol have two great boys. All the kids who have been in our home have loved to play with the boys. The bouncy house they inflate and put in the back yard on nice days is a huge hit!

Not related to us, but the ”grandparents” at our church have graciously loved on our children we’ve fostered and continually pray for them whether in our home or have returned home. One man who every child in the church called “Cookie Man” always had animal crackers hidden in his pocket for all the kids who gave him a sweet smile.

Any child who lives in this neighborhood will be loved and cherished well by us and those around us.
