Family Traditions

Spring: Since we’re both teachers, we have spring break off. We like to take a small trip each year to learn something about history. We’re both history buffs and nestled between New York and Washington there is a lot to discover. We also celebrate Holy Week and host our family for Easter.

Summer: We spend one week every summer down the shore, and try to make as many day trips as we can. We go as a family, so this year it was two of Brian’s three brothers, his sister and parents. We also coordinate with lifelong family friends. The beach is jammed with kids, people, sun and fun. At night we do the famous boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. We will pick one night each to take our nieces and nephews out so every kid feels like it’s their night.

Fall: Fall is about work and play. There’s plenty of leaves to rake, but also fun celebrations like Halloween and Thanksgiving. Every year for Thanksgiving, we gather at Brian’s brother’s house. He must have been a chef in a former life, because it’s the best meal we have all year.

Winter: This season is all about Christmas. We’ve been gathering at Brian’s youngest brother’s house on Christmas Eve for the last 10 years. He really goes all out and we exchange gifts, so we get to see our nieces and nephews open gifts. We are looking hopefully to be a bigger part of that in the near future!
