Our Story

Hi, we are David and Nicky! Thanks for choosing to read our profile. We hope that the following pages and photos help you to learn more about who we are and how excited we are to grow our family through a second adoption. 

Our story began way back in 2006… We were both employed as servers at a quaint Italian restaurant in Holland, MI. It was during an employees-only, river-rafting trip that we first felt butterflies for each other. After a few months of friendship, we were dating and then engaged. We still love to reflect on our August 2008 wedding day, remembering all of the details and the joy, but mostly, remembering all of the people there who had built into us, shaping us to become the people we are today and promising to be our supporters as we began our marriage and our family. We are so grateful to have celebrated 12 years of marriage in August 2020.

We have four sons (three biological and one adopted). We are so proud of our family. Adoption and being a transracial family has changed us for the better. We take our charge to be anti-racist and allies of POC very seriously. Our faith and commitment to our Christian practices of justice and love have deepened as we examine our daily actions in order to better promote justice, equity, and love for our neighbor in all we do.
