Traditions! Traditions! Traditions!
Wintertime:
- Snow days at the cabin – making a snowman, riding snowmobiles, sledding.
- Heather and her sister prepare a culinary masterpiece – fresh herb buttered Thanksgiving turkey!
- Baking a variety of homemade Christmas cookies – Heather’s Grandma’s sour cream cut-out recipe is the favorite!
Summertime:
- Renting a beachfront cottage on a Great Lake in Canada for a week with our pups.
- Doug’s annual family reunion at the cabin. A favorite game involves water hoses and a ball on a rope. Everyone playing gets soaked!
- Sharing an oceanfront rental house in Newport Beach, California with Heather’s brother, wife and kids (once every three years).
- We hand pick 30+ pounds of blueberries and freeze them as we both love to eat homemade Blueberry muffins.
- Annual poolside family cook-off contests with cousins at Heather’s sister’s house…past themes include “best” sausage, burgers, ribs, and chili.
One treasured tradition that we can’t wait to share with a child is our Labor Day chowder/food fest at the cabin. Many friends and family attend, each bringing a “dish to pass.” We provide grillable meats, drinks, a waterslide into the pond. The crowd favorite is the endless supply of soft-serve self-serve ice cream cones.
